Trending on the Farm: Hagen Smith debuts for the Dash while Ramos and Gonzalez dominate

The Trending on the Farm series will highlight player trends from the top prospects in the White Sox system as well as any other notable performances across all affiliates.

Top of the Crop (Trending on the Farm)

NOTE: This piece will focus on players that are trending on the farm currently in the minor leagues. Jonathan Cannon is omitted since he’s with the White Sox (and has since graduated from prospect status). The “Top of the Crop” portion was determined prior to the Dylan Cease trade, hence why Drew Thorpe, Samuel Zavala, and Jairo Iriarte are all omitted (Drew Thorpe has since graduated from prospect status).

Noah Schultz – MLB Pipeline White Sox #1

21-year-old Noah Schultz shared some of the spotlight last Saturday (more on that later), but was once again oustanding on the bump for the Barons.

Bryan Ramos – MLB Pipeline White Sox #13

22-year-old Bryan Ramos was absolutely on fire in Memphis last week. Ramos homered in the first game of the series and twice in the final game. Additionally, he’s been on quite a tear in the month of August as well, batting .291/.398/.557 for a .955 OPS with six home runs and 18 RBI in 79 at-bats.

Peyton Pallette – MLB Pipeline White Sox #28

After shifting to the bullpen and turning his season around, 23-year-old Peyton Pallete received a promotion to AA Birmingham last week. The new level did not stop Pallette’s prowess out of the bullpen, as its been over a month since he last allowed an earned run, and has only allowed two runs over his last 14 appearances (27.2 innings).

Nick Nastrini – MLB Pipeline White Sox #18

24-year-old Nick Nastrini has now spun four strong starts in a row in August after making some adjustments. Over his last 18.1 innings, Nick Nastrini has a 2.45 ERA, 18 strikeouts, six walks, and a 1.25 WHIP.

Jacob Gonzalez – MLB Pipeline White Sox #12

After enduring some serious struggles after initial success upon his promotion to Birmingham, 22-year-old Jacob Gonzalez broke out in a big way against Biloxi. Gonzalez send four of his eight hits for extra bases and also walked more (five) than he struck out (three) while appearing in all six games.

George Wolkow – MLB Pipeline White Sox #7

18-year-old George Wolkow got his offense back on track against Fayetteville last week, but strikeouts ticked were also higher than you’d like to see (nine).

Colson Montgomery – MLB Pipeline White Sox #2

22-year-old Colson Montgomery found some success against Memphis pitchers last week, but still struck out more times (10) than you’d like, but had success nonetheless.

Jake Eder – MLB Pipeline White Sox #23

Jake Eder had a two start week for the Knights, and while the first start was quite bad (.1 IP, 4 H, 6R [6 ER], 3 BB), his second outing was significantly better. The 25-year-old pitched five innings allowing five hits, two runs (two earned), two walks, and struck out six.

Trending on the Farm: AAA (Charlotte)

Zach DeLoach

26-year-old outfielder Zach DeLoach paced the entire Knights offense last week in Memphis. DeLoach hit .423/.483/.692 with a 1.175 OPS, four doubles, one home run, seven RBI, 11 runs scored, and just for good measure, was successful on his lone stolen base attempt in six games.

Carlos Pérez

27-year-old Carlos Pérez also had a strong offensive week against the Redbirds, batting .333/.391/.667 for a 1.058 OPS. Pérez scored three runs, had a double, two home runs, seven RBI, and walked more (two) than he struck out (one) in five games.

Wilmer Difo

32-year-old Wilmer Difo appeared in three games but made the most of them, doubling twice in addition to knocking a triple en route to a .923 OPS across 13 at-bats.

Sammy Peralta

26-year-old left-hander Sammy Peralta made two appearances for the last week, throwing four and two thirds innings allowing four hits, one run (earned), and also added five strikeouts.

Sean Burke – MLB Pipeline White Sox #30

24-year-old Sean Burke had one start last week, throwing four and two thirds innings allowing three hits, three runs (two earned), no walks, and struck out eight.

Trey McGough

26-year-old southpaw Trey McGough made two appearances last week, pitching three and one third scoreless innings allowing two hits, one walk, and struck out three.

Trending on the Farm: AA (Birmingham)

Terrell Tatum

While he only appeared in three games for the Barons last week, 25-year-old outfielder Terrell Tatum made his presence felt against the Shuckers. Tatum hit .364/.462/.455 with a .917 OPS, four hits (including a double) in 11 at-bats, went 1-for-2 on stolen bases, and scored two runs, including this to secure the win for the Barons on Saturday.

Jairo Iriarte – MLB Pipeline White Sox #5

While 22-year-old Jairo Iriarte’s start certainly had its warts, it was still a scoreless outing over five and did display some flashes of dominance.

Tyler Schweitzer – MLB Pipeline White Sox #20

23-year-old Tyler Schweitzer turned in a quality effort against the Shuckers. Schweitzer has put together a solid season between Winston-Salem and Birmingham, The southpaw’s made 21 starts with a 4.09 ERA, throwing 110 innings, a 1.29 WHIP, and 116 strikeouts.

Zach Franklin

25-year-old righty Zach Franklin was promoted to Birmingham along with Peyton Pallete last week and had solid showings in his first outings as a Baron. Franklin made two scoreless appearances, throwing two perfect innings while striking out three.

Jordan Mikel

25-year-old right-hander Jordan Mikel put in one scoreless appearance last week, pitching three innings allowing one hit, one walk, and struck out four.

Chase Plymell

26-year-old righty Chase Plymell made two appearances last week for the Barons, throwing five total innings allowing six hits, one run (earned), walked one, and struck out six.

Trending on the Farm: A+ (Winston-Salem)

Hagen Smith – MLB Pipeline White Sox #3

21-year-old 2024 fifth overall draft pick Hagen Smith made his debut with the Dash last Saturday night. Smith did not disappoint in his first affiliate action in his brief outing, and only made Saturday’s viewing options more exciting between both Noah Schultz and himself. Smith is expected to make two more three-inning starts with Winston-Salem to finish out the season.

Aldrin Batista – MLB Pipeline White Sox #22

21-year-old Aldrin Batista pitched another gem for the Dash since his promotion. Batista has only allowed two runs (15 IP) over three starts with the Dash with 19 strikeouts and a 0.87 WHIP.

Caden Connor

24-year old Caden Connor hit .364/.500/.409 for a .909 OPS over six games last week. Connor scored a run, had eight total hits, including a double, and one RBI.

Nick Altermatt

24-year-old righty Nick Altermatt made two nearly perfect relief appearances for Winston-Salem last week. Altermatt hurled four scoreless innings allowing just one walk while striking out six.

Trending on the Farm: A (Kannapolis)

Sam Antonacci

2024 5th round draft pick Sam Antonacci led the charge for the Cannon Ballers offense last week against Fayetteville. Antonacci slashed .538/.760/.692 for a 1.452 OPS with seven runs scored, two doubles, six RBI, a ridiculous 10 walks to two strikeouts, and went 2-for-2 on stolen bases.

Ricardo Brizuela

21-year-old right-hander Ricardo Brizuela had a solid outing for Kannapolis in what has been a very good season. Between the ACL and Kannapolis, Brizuela has made 18 appearances (10 starts) with a 2.84 ERA, 66.2 innings pitched, a 0.99 WHIP, and 65 strikeouts.

Clete Hartzog

2024 UDFA Clete Hartzog pitched well in his professional debut for Kannapolis. The 23-year-old righty made two scoreless appearances throwing three and one third innings allowing two hits, one walk, and struck out six.

Patrick Maybach

26-year-old southpaw Patrick Maybach pitched well in his lone appearance of the week for the Ballers. Maybach chucked two and one third scoreless innings allowing one hit while striking out four.

Trending on the Farm: Rookie (DSL)

Eyke Ugueto

18-year-old infielder Eyke Ugueto appeared in the final two games of the DSL White Sox season. Ugueto scored a run and three hits (including a double) in seven at-bats with two RBI.

Juan Uribe Jr.

18-year-old infielder Juan Uribe also appeared in the final two games for the DSL White Sox scoring a run, knocking two hits in five at-bats with an RBI.
