The Barons had the night off and the Intimidators and the Dash were rained out and will play doubleheaders on Wednesday. The only affiliate in action was the Charlotte Knights who were hosting the Durham Bulls.
Durham 12, Charlotte 8
The Knights offense pounded out fourteen hits and scored eight runs but it was not enough support for the beleaguered pitching staff. Carlos Sanchez led the attack with three hits, including a double, in his five at bats. Matt Davidson and Trayce Thompson had two hits apiece, and first baseman Neftali Soto went 3-4 with three RBI’s and a walk. Starter Brad Penny was lit up in his 3.2 innings, giving up eleven hits and six runs. Arcenio Leon relieved Penny and was worse, giving up four runs in an inning and two-thirds. It was not all bad for Knights pitching, as Maikel Cleto had four strikeouts over 1.2 scoreless innings and Daniel Webb had two strikeouts in a 1-2-3 9th inning.
Worth noting: Davidson has been putting the ball to the opposite field with regularity the past few games, and there are multiple reports of greatly improved defense at third. Encouraging signs, though the going is early.
