Carlos Sanchez is officially ON FIRE! After going 5-5 at the plate on Friday night, Sanchez went 4-4 on Saturday with a walk, a double, and two home runs. Perhaps most impressively is that he hit one home run right-handed and the other left-handed. It is clearly apparent that the 22 year-old Sanchez is dialed in and trying to force his way back to Chicago. Leury Garcia went 4-5 with two doubles and starter Chris Beck pitched six innings of two run ball to earn the win. Tennessee 6, Birmingham 5 (10 innings)
The Barons dropped a back and forth affair to their Cubs affiliate rivals on Saturday night. Starter Myles Jaye was cruising until he gave up a four run 5th inning, ending his evening with four strikeouts and no walks. Centerfielder Jacob May went 2-3 with two walks and is quietly off to a great start to the season hitting .341/.383/.432 with ten stolen bases. Tim Anderson went 1-4 and Courtney Hawkins went 3-5 and now has seven hits in his past sixteen at bats.
Winston-Salem 2, Wilmington 0
Keon Barnum and Chris Jacobs went 2-4 in the middle of the Dash lineup to produce two runs, which proved to be enough offense for starter Matt Heidenreich. The 24 year-old righty threw seven scoreless innings, striking out four, walking one, and allowing five hits. The stellar start lowered Heidenreich’s season ERA to a sparkling 0.76. Reliever Michael Ynoa entered the game in the 8th and proceeded to earn the save with two scoreless innings, striking out three and most importantly for Ynoa, walking none.
Kannapolis 5, Rome 0
20 year-old Luis Martinez can’t buy an alcoholic drink yet, but he can shut down the Class A Rome Braves. Martinez was masterful Saturday, tossing a career high 6.2 innings scoreless innings, striking out four, while walking one and only allowing four hits. Rule V selection Peter Tago finished off the shutout with 2.1 scoreless innings of his own. Shortstop Eddy Alvarez went 2-3 with a walk and Michael Suiter went 2-4 with a triple to lead the Intimidators offense.
