On Tuesday the White Sox farm went .500, notching two wins and two losses. Danny Hayes and Leury Garcia turned in some stellar nights, but otherwise it was a forgettable night in the Sox farm.
Charlotte 5, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 4
Leury Garcia led the Knights to a close victory over the RailRiders by going 4-5 with two doubles, a run and RBI and swiped his 14th base. Trayce Thompson scored a pair of runs after going 3-5 with a double and no strikeouts. Matt Tuisasosopo and Jason Coats each contributed two hits of their own, with the former scoring and driving in a run.
Brad Penny had a so-so start. In six innings the veteran let up eight hits and three walks, but struck out eight to limit the damage to only four earned runs. Jairo Ascenio locked down his seventh save with a scoreless ninth.
Birmingham 5, Mobile 4
Jacob May, Courtney Hawkins and Danny Hayes put the team on their back to victory. May went 1-4 with a walk along with two RBIs and no strikeouts while Hawkins scored two after going 2-4 with a walk. Danny Hayes was the big hero of the evening by reaching base four times, going 3-4 with a walk an RBI and run scored.
Frankie Montas turned in a quality start, gonig six innings and giving up three runs. The top pitching prospect in the farm gave up seven hits and a walk, but struck out five en route to only allowing the three runs. Cody Winiarski blew the save, but pitched two innings to become the winning pitcher in the 10th inning.
Wilmington 2, Winston-Salen 1
The Dash couldn’t muster more than one run despite eight hits. Jake Peter and Keenyn Walker led the way with each going 2-4 with a triple and Walker scored the lone Dash run. Andre Wheeler got the start and struck out four in three innings, but also walked four. Wheeler allowed one run and Zach Isler took the loss out of the bullpen.
Asheville 7, Kannapolis 3
It was a rough day for the Intimidators as Luis Martinez was roughed up (six runs in three innings) and the offense couldn’t muster any assault. No Kannapolis player had an extra base hit with Christian Stringer and Mason Robbins driving in the only runs. Eddy Alvarez cooled off by going 0-4 on the day.
