White Sox Minor League Recap 5/30/2015: Sox starters strong across all levels

Lehigh Valley 1, Charlotte 0
The Knights wasted a gem of a start from Erik Johnson and lost a pitchers duel to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Saturday night. Johnson pitched seven innings, giving up only one run thanks to a solo home run to former White Sox Jayson Nix. Johnson struck out six and only walked one, lowering his season ERA to 4.14. Onelki Garcia pitched two scoreless innings in relief, striking out three and only allowing one hit. Leury Garcia went 2-3 and accounted for two of the Knights four hits. Matt Davidson and Tyler Saladino also singled in the loss.
Birmingham 6, Jacksonville 5
The Barons won on a walk-off hit after the game had several lead changes in the late innings. The Barons began the 8th inning down 2-3, but rallied for three runs to take a 5-3 lead that J.B. Wendelken could not protect in the 9th. However, with the game tied 5-5, first basemen Danny Hayes hit a walk-off single to earn the victory. Hayes had a strong game overall, going 3-4 with a walk. Tim Anderson and Jacob May both went 2-5 and Jeremy Farrell went 3-4 with three RBI’s. Starter Frankie Montas pitched six innings, only allowing an earned run on five hits and two walks.
Winston-Salem 3, Salem 1
Second basemen Jake Peter broke a 1-1 tie in the 8th with a two-run home run which proved to be the difference against the Salem Red Sox. Starter James Dykstra pitched six innings, striking out eight and only allowing one run on six hits and two walks. Reliever Devon Davis struck out five over three scoreless innings to earn the win. Davis has pitched seven scoreless innings since being promoted to the Dash. Catcher Omar Narvaez went 1-3 with a double and outfielder Keenyn Walker went 1-3 with a triple.
Kannapolis 3, Hagerstown 2
Eddy Alvarez went 3-4 with a triple, a walk, and a stolen base to lead the Intimidators past the Hagerstown Suns on Saturday. Starter Thad Lowry had no problem blocking the Suns from the base paths, he only allowed three hits and one run over his seven innings of work. Closer Matt Cooper allowed one run over his two innings to earn the save. Cooper now has a 1.46 ERA over his 12.1 innings this season for the Intimidators.
DSL Orioles 3, DSL White Sox 2
The Dominican Summer League started on Saturday and the DSL White Sox fell in their first game to the DSL Orioles by a score of 3-2.
