Buffalo 5, Charlotte 4
Micah Johnson had a great day at the plate, going 3-4 with an RBI for the Knights and has seen his average climb above .300. Behind him was Tyler Saladino who went 1-4 with a double. Matt Tuiasosopo had a good day going 2-5 with a double and Tyler Colvin also went 2-4. Jason Coats was hitless but recorded the only other RBI for the team (the other two runs were off of errors).
Meanwhile starter Chris Beck only went four innings and gave up two earned runs along with three hits, three walks and four strikeouts. It’s not clear why Beck was removed after four – he had only thrown 72 pitches. Terance Marin threw two innings of scoreless relief before Maikel Cleto had a rare bad night and gave up three earned runs in 0.1 innings pitched.
Chattanooga 4, Birmingham 0
Starter Mark Blackmar had a quality start, throwing six innings of two run ball and striking out five, but it wasn’t meant to be as the Baron’s offense couldn’t muster any runs. Christian Marrero went 2-4 and is hitting .378 over his last 10 games, seemingly invigorated by his brother Chris’ presence. Marcus Lemon recorded the only other hit for team as he went 1-3.
Winston-Salem 6, Carolina 2
While it was a good day for the Dash, it was marred when starter Jordan Guerrero was ejected in the fourth inning of his second A+ ball start. Guerrero hit Carolina’s Keith Curcio with the first pitch of the fourth frame and was promptly ejected after allowing an earned run and striking out four. Jeremy Dowdy and manager Tim Esmay were both ejected for arguing with the umpire.
Meanwhile the Dash offense had a field day. Adam Engel, Chris Jacobs and Celuluis Rondon each had two hits. Jacobs had two RBIs. Jake Peter went 1-4 with a walk. Omar Narvaez went 1-2 with a walk in replacing Dowdy. Toby Thomas and Nolan Earley each had a hit, Thomas had a double, and an RBI.
Euclides Leyer pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Guerrero to take home the win.
Kannapolis 8, Delmarva 2
Well the Intimidators had eight runs on 15 hits, so that’s a thing. Eddy Alvarez went 2-5 with walk, double and RBI. Hunter Jones went 3-5 with two doubles. Nick Basto was 2-4 with a double, home run and two RBIs. Mason Robbins was 4-5 with an RBI. Really, the only hitter to not get a hit was Brett Austin, who still recorded and RBI and a walk. The only hitters to not get RBIs were Ethan Gross and Jones. No word on what the Intimidators’ hitting philosophy is, but here’s hoping it heads north to Chicago.
Yency Almonte went a strong seven innings only allowing two runs, two walks and seven hits while striking out four. Jacob Morris pitched two innings of scoreless relief and struck out three.
