If Erik Johnson were called up to Chicago, took John Danks’ spot in the rotation and woke the team up from its long slumber, it would be quite symbolic. Here was the team’s top ranked prospect left for dead after a bad start in Chicago in 2014 and subsequent AAA season. Now, he’s gaining steam and befuddled the hitters on the prospect loaded Pawtucket Red Sox. Johnson went six stellar innings, striking out a whopping 11 batters while only allowing three hits and walks each. You’d have to imagine that Johnson is eagerly sitting next to his phone waiting for the call back to the bigs.
The offense wasn’t too great, only managing six hits, but it got the job done. The recently promoted Chris Marrero went 2-3 with a double, Trayce Thompson went 1-2 with an RBI double, Matt Davidson went 1-2, walked twice and scored a run. Finally Tyler Saladino was hitless, but had two walks and also scored a run.
Myrlte Beach 6, Winston-Salem 0
Jake Peter kept his hitting streak going and that’s about it for a Dash team that could only muster three hits. Matt Heidenreich through six innings, gave up three earned runs and struck out eight as the tough luck loser.
Hagerstown 8, Kannapolis 4
Eddy Alvarez went 2-4 with two walks while Nick Delmonico went 1-2 with a two run blast. The offense was remarkably unremarkable after that.
Yelmison Peralta dropped his record to 2-6 after walking six batters in five innings and allowing seven base runners, which was not alleviated by any number of strikeouts as Peralta had only two strikeouts.
