White Sox Minor League Recap 7/13/2015: Jaye continues scoreless streak

Birmingham 2, Jackson 0

Myles Jaye (9-3, 2.38), still just 23 years old, held the Jackson Generals scoreless in five innings pitched, extending his streak of scoreless starts to four (25 innings pitched). In his start, Jaye allowed six baserunners (three hits and three walks) while striking out four batters. Jaye, acquired in a trade with Daniel Webb for Jason Frasor, has had a resurgent 2015 season. The 6’3” Fayetteville, Georgia native did not miss bats last season season at Birmingham, where he had a 1.51 WHIP (10.0 H/9, 3.6 BB/9, 5.0 K/9 in 132 IP). Jaye’s out-pitch – and best secondary offering – is his slider. With the strikeout numbers back up and the hit totals down (just 78 in in 94.2 IP), Jaye clearly benefitted from repeating levels (following a brief stint at Winston-Salem last season). It will be worth tracking Jaye going forward, especially if he can realize his potential as a mid, back-end starter.

Two Barons, Rob Brantly and Keenyn Walker, combined for six hits – three each. Walker reached base four times as he added a walk in his fourth plate appearance. Brantly raised his average to .296 with the three hits, one of which was a double – his fourth of the season (21 games). Nick Delmonico, batting third, went 0-3 with an RBI (SF).
Kyle Hansen earned his fourth save, lowering his ERA to 3.20, as he struck out four (0R, 1BB, 1H) in a two inning effort.
