Charlotte 5, Norfolk 4
Down 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth, Micah Johnson singled home pinch runner Ethan Wilson. Leury Garcia followed suit with his third hit of the night, a walk-off single that scored catcher Kevan Smith.
Johnson went 2-5 on the day while Garcia went 3-5, wth his 27th stolen base. Jason Coats had a solo blast in the fourth inning and went 2-3 . Trayce Thompson also had a multi-hit game, going 2-4 with two doubles.
Starter Scott Carroll went five innings and only allowed four hits and one run, with no walks and two strikeouts. Maikel Cleto went two innings and gave up a run while striking out three. Starter-turned-reliever Junior Guerra went two innings, struck out two and allowed two runs, but picked up the win thanks to Garcia’s heroics.
Penascola 6, Birmingham 5
The Barons offense racked up twelve hits and were led by Joey DeMichele, who had a triple and two RBIs after going 2-4. Tim Anderson and Danny Hayes each had two singles while Courtney Hawkins went 1-4 in his first game back from his foot injury. Nick Delmonico, now slotted in the two-spot in the lineup, had an RBI triple and a walk.
Starter Mark Blackmar allowed three runs in his five innings pitched, but the loss went to reliever Devon Davis. Davis allowed three runs in only 0.2 innings of work.
Carolina 8, Winston-Salem 2
Adam Engel had the best day for the Dash offense, going 3-5, and was the only player with more than one hit. Jeremy Dowdy had the only extra base hit for the team, a double. Nick Basto and Trey Michalczewski each had RBI singles.
Starter Jordan Guerrero has had a rough time while adapting to A+ ball. Here he gave up five earned runs in only 2.2 innings of work with no strikeouts.
Kannapolis 5, Hagerstown 2
John Ziznewski powered the Intimidators to victory with a grand slam in the second inning – his first professional home run. Ziznewski went 2-3 on the day, with his other hit being a single. Louie Lechich went 2-4 with the other RBI. Eddy Alvarez, Mason Robbins, Ryan Leonards, Michael Suiter and Michael Danner all recorded hits in the game.
Starter Yency Almonte turned in another gem, going seven strong innings of one-hit ball, striking out three and walking three. Matt Cooper struck out two in the ninth inning to notch his eighth save.
Ogden 5, Great Falls 4
Brandon Magallones was hit for three runs in 3.2 innings, though he did strike out four. Zack Erwin pitched 3.1 innings of relief and struck out three while allowing only one run.
On the offensive end, Zach Fish had a great day where he had three hits, including two home runs and three RBIs. Frank Califano had two hits and the other RBI for the Voyagers. Casey Schroeder turned in a double as he continues to rack up extra base hits.
AZL White Sox 8, AZL Brewers 0
The offense piled on eight runs, but the AZL White Sox staff only allowed four base runners en route to a shutout. Brandon Quintero pitched five innings and struck out five, Victor Done struck out three in two innings and Jack Charleston struck out two in the ninth. It was also the pro debut for Cuban signee Andres Sanchez. The 18-year old threw one perfect inning, striking out one.
Four players for the AZL White Sox recorded two hits – Tyler Sullivan, Bradley Strong, Cody Daily and Daniel Mendick. Jack Fincher and Jordan Yallen each had singles, but scored twice due to taking walks. Sullivan and Strong each recorded an extra base hit, a double and triple respectively, and two RBIs apiece.
DSL Orioles 7, DSL White Sox 3
Maiker Feliz went 1-4 to keep his average at .389 and Luis Castillo went 2-4 with a double.
