Charlotte 8, Norfolk 4
Micah Johnson continued his hot streak with a 3-5 game where he scored three runs. Matt Davidson was 2-4 with two RBIs and Matt Tuisasosopo was 2-3 with home run, RBI and walk. Drew Garcia, hitting for Trayce Thompson in the sixth, had two RBIs off of an eighth inning home run.
Starter Shawn Haviland gave up four runs, three earned in 4.2 innings of work. Maikel Cleto pitched perfect eighth and ninth innings while striking out five to notch his fifth save.
Birmingham 11, Penascola 3
Starter Frankie Montas went five shutout innings in his return to the minors, only allowing two hits and striking out eight batters to one walk. The offense waited until Montas was out of the game to explode, getting seven runs in the sixth inning highlighted by a two run homer from Courtney Hawkins, who went 2-5 with three RBIs. Tim Anderson was 2-4 with two RBIs and a walk, Nick Delmonico was 1-4 with a walk and double and Chris Jacobs had three hits, one double.
Winston-Salem 3, Lynchburg 0
Spencer Adams, 19, made his A+ ball debut today after being promoted for a doubleheader. Adams went six strong innings and only allowed three hits, one walk and he struck out four. It was a very nice debut at the level for a pitcher who was already young for low A, let alone high A.
Adam Engel powered the offense, scoring two runs after going 2-4 and scoring two runs. Trey Michalczewski and Nolan Earley had the RBIs for the team.
Winston-Salem 6, Lynchburg 4
Brandon Brennan got the start for the Dash and went 7.2 innings and gave up four runs on 10 hits and four walks, but struck out five en route to victory. Keon Barnum had a three run home run in a four-run eighth inning to give the Dash the lead for the first time all game. Adam Engel and Cleuluis Rondon chipped in home runs of their own. Jake Peter was 2-3 with a double, walk and two runs scored and Trey Michalcszewski was 1-3 with an RBI and a walk.
Hagerstown 9, Kannapolis 4
The Intimidators’ pitching got knocked around, with Yelmison Peralta, Connor Walsh and Brad Salgado each giving up at least two runs. The offense did what they could behind John Ziznewski, who went 3-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Mason Robbins went 1-3 with a triple, Eddy Alvarez was 1-5 with a double and Brett Austin was 1-2 with two walks.
Idaho Falls 4, Great Falls 3
The Voyagers had 10 hits but couldn’t produce enough offense as only Johan Cruz had any RBIs, courtesy of his two-RBI double. Frank Califano, Landon Lassiter and Dante Flores all had multi hit games with Flores going 2-5 and the othet two going 2-4 with a walk each.
AZL White Sox 10, AZL Athletics 7
Jacob May had another strong game during his rehab stint, going 2-6 with three RBIs. Not to be outdone, Corey Zangari was 3-6 with three RBIs. No one on the AZL White Sox had any extra base hits, but 17 singles and three stolen bases will lead to 10 runs. Daniel Mendick was 3-5 with an RBI, and Tyler Sullivan was 2-5 with an RBI as well. All nine batters for the AZL White Sox recorded at least one hit.
On the pitching side, Christopher Comito started the game and gave up three unearned runs in his five innings of work where he struck out two and walked two. Jordan Stephens followed him up with a scoreless inning that saw him record a walk and strikeout. Alex Katz had a very strong two innings by striking out four batters.
