The Knights went quietly in this one, putting together just four hits in getting shut out. Jason Coats‘ double in four trips was the team’s only extra base knock. Recently DFA’d Hector Noesi booked a solid start, but giving up two runs turned out to be two too many. Nate Jones made a rehab appearance, throwing a scoreless frame with one walk.
Winston-Salem 3, Carolina 2
Carson Fulmer made his Advanced A debut in this one, after his very brief tune-up in the AZL. Fulmer breezed through the first inning on eight pitches, striking out one. In the second he did give up a double and a walk, but worked around them with another two strikeouts. Fulmer had a pretty big innings load during his college season, so look for his outings to remain on the short side going forward. Fulmer wasn’t the only Dash pitcher to perform well, as Brian Clark followed with five innings of one-run ball (though he did walk four). On the offensive side, Trey Michalczewski had a nice game the day after being ejected for arguing balls and strikes: 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Adam Engel went 1-4 with a walk, and stole his 40th and 41st bases.
Kannapolis 7, Greensboro 5 (F/15)
The Intimidators won a marathon on the road behind the bat of Alexander Simon. Simon went 3-for-7 with a home run, with his final hit knocking in the difference-maker in the top of the 15th. Ryan Leonards and Michael Suiter also added 2-hit games, with the former stealing two bases as well. Yency Almonte gave up four runs (three earned) in his six inning start, striking out seven and not walking a batter. The bullpen did great work from the 9th on, throwing seven innings of scoreless relief between David Trexler (3 IP), Jacob Morris (3 IP) and Bradley Salgado (1 IP).
Great Falls 9, Billings 1
The Voyagers won big, showering their opponent with extra base hits and riding strong pitching. Zach Fish and Sikes Orvis each homered and drew a walk, while Dante Flores had a pair of doubles and a free pass. Johan Cruz went 3-5 with a double as he continues to hit well in the Pioneer, with Frank Califano (1-4) and Jackson Glines (2-4) adding two-baggers as well. On the pitching side, Evin Einhardt threw five innings of one-run ball in his start. Lefty Ryan Riga struck out five in two innings of shutout relief, and he’s have a nice first year in pro ball: 17 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 7 BB, 18 K.
AZL White Sox 4, AZL Cubs 3
In a cactus-infused version of the Crosstown Classic, the AZL Sox beat the north side-affiliated team behind a 3-4 day with a triple from Jake Fincher. The White Sox’ 29th round pick this year, Fincher has hit very well in the AZL thus far (.343/.425/.457) while adding eight stolen bases in his first 22 pro games. The pick one round ahead of him this year, Bradley Strong, walked in all three of his plate appearances and has hit well too (.321/.393/.509, 13 BB, 10 K in 123 PA). 18-year old Yosmer Solorzano went back to his effective, ground ball-inducing ways in his start, allowing a pair of runs in five innings.
DSL Padres 6, DSL White Sox 4
Maiker Feliz had a rare poor showing (0-4, 3 K, plus his 15th error). Carlos Perez had a pair of singles and a pair of walks, while Hanleth Otano went 1-4.
