Rochester 6, Charlotte 5
Starter Hector Noesi pitched seven innings but allowed six runs (five earned) as he took the loss against the Rochester Red Wings Sunday. Third baseman Matt Davidson hit his 18th home run of the year in the 8th inning. Davidson’s 18 home runs are tied for second most in the International League, however, he is striking out in 36% of his at bats and his season averages are a very poor .211/.300/.378. Catcher Rob Brantly continues to hit very well with the Knights, he went 3-4 with a double and outfielder Jason Coats doubled twice. Reliever Blake Smith and Junior Guerra pitched a perfect 8th and 9th inning respectively.
Birmingham 3, Pensacola 2
With the Barons on national television (CSN+), their biggest star Tim Anderson shined as he went 3-4 with a double and a stolen base. Anderson is having a very successful year in AA as a recent 22 year-old, hitting .308/.345/.418 with 45 stolen bases. Starter Marc Blackmar struggled through four innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and two walks. Reliever Tim Crabbe came on and pitched four perfect innings to earn the win and Zach Isler pitched a scoreless 9th inning to get the save.
Winston-Salem 10, Salem 3
2015 1st round draft pick Carson Fulmer tossed three scoreless innings and the Dash bats pounded out sixteen hits as Winston-Salem romped during a Sunday home game. Fulmer overcame a bit of wildness to strike out three and scatter three walks and two hits. Shortstop Eddy Alvarez led the offense explosion for the Dash as he went 4-5 with a double and a home run. The former Olympian is actually preforming better since his promotion to the Dash, hitting .375/.471/.589 over sixteen games. Catcher Omar Narvaez went 3-5 and is quieting putting together another solid year. The switch-hitting Narvaez is hitting especially well against righties, posting a .301/.379/.361 line this season. Recently promoted reliever Matt Cooper made his Winston-Salem debut and pitched a perfect inning, which extended his scoreless streak to sixteen straight innings.
Greensboro 7, Kannapolis 4
The Intimidators bullpen allowed all seven runs to score in the 7th, 8th, and 9th inning as they dropped a heart-breaker to the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Starter Zach Thompson pitched extremely well, going six shutout innings and only allowing three hits and a walk. Outfielder Michael Suiter went 1-5 and a stolen base to extend his hitting streak to 19 games, which is the longest hitting streak for a Kannapolis player since 2012. Shortstop Ryan Leonards and first baseman Alexander Simon each hit solo home runs to pace the offense.
Orem 4, Great Falls 2
Starter Tanner Banks had an uncharacteristically mediocre start as the Voyagers fell to the Orem Owlz. Banks, who entered the day having only allowed one earned run in his past nineteen innings, gave up four runs over six innings to take the loss. The Great Falls offense did not give Banks much run support, as they could only muster two runs on six hits. Johan Cruz went 2-4 with a double and is hitting .360/.407/.520 thus far in August. Cruz played shortstop on Sunday which is notable because it was his original position and he has been mostly playing third base for the Voyagers. Centerfield Jackson Glines, who newly appointed Scouting Director Nick Hostetler specifically praised, went 2-3 and is hitting .282/.374/.365 this season.
