Norfolk 6, Charlotte 3
Three late runs were all that the Knights could come up with as they dropped a game to the Norfolk Tides. Starter Kyle Drabek was cruising until the 6th inning, where he allowed all four of his runs. After a hot stretch where his ERA was at 2.56, Drabek has fell back to the earth a bit recently. Catcher Kevan Smith paced the offense by going 2-4 and was the only Knight who had a multi-hit game.
Chattanooga 7, Birmingham 1
The Barons must be happy to be finished playing Chattanooga, as they dropped four of out five in the last series between the two squads. Myles Jaye was roughed up to the tune of seven runs (six earned) over four innings. Recently promoted reliever Jefferson Olacio tossed two interesting scoreless innings, as he walked four, struck out three, and allowed one hit. Arizona Fall League bound Robinson Leyer also threw two scoreless innings in relief and Zach Isler added a 1-2-3 frame as well.
The Barons offense struggled as Tim Anderson was on the bench for a rest day. The Birmingham lineup could only muster five hits, but did walk four times. Outfielder Toby Thomas went 1-4 with a double.
Winston-Salem 7, Wilmington 3
The Dash offense pounded out 14 hits and James Dykstra tossed five scoreless innings in relief to lower the Dash’s magic number to win the Southern Division to four. The Dash, who have already clinched a playoff spot, lead the Carolina League Southern Division by four games over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Jordan Guerrero made his first start since August 21st after a brief stint on the DL and racked up six strikeouts over three innings, but did give up three runs. The Winston-Salem offense easily made up for that as catcher Omar Narvaez had a career night by going 4-5 with two RBI’s. Adam Engel chipped in two hits and a double while Keon Barnum went 2-4 with a walk.
Hagerstown 6, Kannapolis 0
Starter Zach Thompson allowed five runs (four earned) over four innings as the Kannapolis Intimidators were shutout by the Hagerstown Suns. Reliever Devon Davis struck out three over two scoreless innings and leadoff man Michael Suiter doubled in the losing effort.
Great Falls 7, Missoula 5
Great Falls held off a late rally to hold onto the victory against the Missoula Ospreys on Tuesday night. The offense had 12 hits and outfielder Jackson Glines lead the charge by going 3-4 with his 2nd home run of the season. Fellow outfielders Antonio Rodriguez and Landon Lassiter also homered and Lassiter drove in four runs with a double in addition to his home run. Johan Cruz went 2-5 to extend his hitting streak to 10 games and has collected a hit in 19 of his last 20 contests.
AZL White Sox 4, AZL Royals
The Kansas City Royals may hold a commanding lead in the AL Central standings, but the White Sox rule the AZL as they knocked off the Royals to advance to the Arizona League Championship. In a game was started by Brandon Quintero on Monday, Kevin Escorcia came on Tuesday in the 3rd inning and pitched five innings of one-run ball to earn the win. Shortstop Daniel Mendick went 3-5 and stole a base and catcher Seby Zavala went 2-4 with a double and a walk to lead the offense. The White Sox now will face the Mariners on Wednesday for the Arizona League Championship.
