Bummer received a draft bonus of $100,000 (10th round equivalent) after displaying a fastball in the 88-92 mph range for Nebraska. Bummer did exhibit a mid 90s fastball in shorter stints the previous summer during the Cape Cod League and it was enough to entice the White Sox. Aaron pitched well out of the gate in the system with rookie level Great Falls in 2014, where he posted a 2.45 ERA in 22 innings while striking out almost 12 hitters per 9 innings.

He went in for minor elbow surgery after the season to clear out “loose bodies,” causing him to miss the beginning of 2015. During rehab it was discovered he had a torn UCL, so he went in for a second surgery, this time Tommy John surgery. As a result he missed the rest of 2015 and much of 2016. Bummer returned to the mound and threw just 16.2 innings in 2016 across multiple affiliates while displaying the stuff and high strikeout totals that he showed in rookie ball.

Bummer possesses a 70-grade fastball to go along with a developing slider that has shown plus character. His fastball was overpowering at times in the minors, but he didn’t always locate it well. He throws his fastball in the 95-99 mph range while generating high strikeout totals.

He threw 49 minor league innings in 2017 across three levels. He posted a 3.31 ERA with 54 strikeouts and 20 walks. Bummer was called up to the White Sox on July 27, 2017, and remained there for the rest of the season. In 22 innings for the White Sox, Bummer showed lofty promise while being erratic at times. He had 17 strikeouts to go along with 15 walks in the big leagues. He posted a 4.50 ERA while appearing in 30 games and holding opponents to a batting average of .178.
