Scouting Report
Dalquist was drafted in the third round of the 2019 draft out of Redondo Union High School in California. He was given a $2 million bonus to join the organization and begin his career. The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder throws his fastball in the 91-93 mph range and touches 95. Extension in his delivery creates deception and he should add more velocity with increased strength. Dalquist throws his curveball in the mid 70s with depth and also employs a slider and changeup.
He projects as a mid-rotation starter and Dalquist pitched at the Schaumburg site in 2020. Pitching alongside players with more experience and facing hitters with big league potential accelerated the learning curve for the right-hander. In addition to picking up on the work ethic it takes to be a professional, Dalquist befitted from the use of a Trackman and a Rapsodo giving him access to data and analytics he didn’t have as an amateur. Facing big league hitters and learning a major league strike zone also enhanced his development. How much of an impact this will have on his future will be apparent in 2021 and beyond.
Major League Outlook: Mid-rotation starter
