Scouting Report
Heuer’s development into a solid big league reliever was a big win for the White Sox. From identifying him before the draft to aiding his improvement, Heuer has turned into a potential high-leverage reliever. He was the second player from the 2018 draft to make his MLB debut and when you see his stuff it’s no secret why. He throws in the upper 90s and has a nasty slider. Heuer has enough command of that stuff to be a quality reliever. The next step for him is to prove he can do it in tight situations.
After being used as a starter in college and during his pro debut in 2018, the White Sox moved him to the bullpen. It was evident they saw they had something because they assigned Heuer to High-A Winston-Salem in 2019. He finished the year in Double-A Birmingham after earning a promotion. Instead of a year in the high minors in 2020, Heuer made the White Sox Opening Day roster out of Summer Camp in 2020. He ended up being one of the team’s best relievers as a rookie.
