Scouting Report
McClure was an advanced college pitcher when the White Sox drafted him in 2017 and he has shown that when healthy in the minors. Unfortunately for McClure, between a major knee injury in 2018 and the canceled 2020 minor league season, he only pitched 174 1/3 innings in his first three and a half seasons as a professional.
When healthy, McClure has always had an ERA under four with solid strikeout and walk rates. However, the stuff never profiled well. Then, in 2020 fall instructs, McClure’s showed 95 mph with his fastball, a tick up in velocity. He also has an above-average slider and a decent curveball. He rounds out his repertoire with a splitter. McClure still has to show his stuff can play in the upper minors, but he is on the radar as a legit prospect.
