Scouting Report

Pilkington was 20-year-old junior when the White Sox drafted him. He was talked about as a potential top 10 overall pick after his sophomore season. His stuff backed up a bit as a junior and the Sox were able to nab him later than expected. The southpaw pitched for the USA Collegiate National Team and in the Cape Cod League and was very successful in those stints. Konnor got a late start pitching for the White Sox organization after playing in the College World Series and signing late. On limited innings after a long spring, Konnor pitched just 14 innings across the two rookie affiliates in his pro debut.

In his first full season in 2019, he was assigned to Low-A Kannapolis and dominated. In six starts, he had a 1.62 ERA with 42 strikeouts, 11 walks and 15 hits in 33 1/3 innings. He moved up to Winston-Salem, but was hit hard. He had a 5.27 ERA with 96 strikeouts, 39 walks and 99 hits allowed in 95 2/3 innings.

Stuff wise, Pilkington’s fastball has been in the 94-96 mph range in the past, but is mostly lower 90s. He does project to have three solid or better offerings with his 55-grade changeup as his best pitch. His fastball or slider should also be average or better. His velocity ticked down in college but he still got hitters out because of his arm slot that creates steep downhill plane. Konnor also repeats his delivery very well.
