Scouting Report
Ravelo was seen as somewhat of an overdraft and like most high school draftees was considered quite raw. He’s got excellent hand-eye coordination and potential to develop power. Early on in his pro career Ravelo made that hand-eye skill work, showing consistently strong contact rates and hitting for high average in Kannapolis (.292 average over parts of three seasons). The power didn’t developed right away, but Ravelo gradually showed progress. In his 2011 stint in Kannapolis, only 9 of his 51 hits went for extra bases, all doubles. In 2012 that improved, with 24 of 84 for XBH.
He showed the most improvement in 2013 with Winston-Salem, but that came with a move from third base to first. To go with the power improvement, he produced a good walk rate for the first time as a pro. In 2013 Ravelo started the year again in Kannapolis after not playing after July 3 in 2012, when he left for undisclosed personal reasons.
He continued to develop in 2014, which was his best season as a pro to that point. Ravelo displayed a high batting average, good walk rate and decent power while making the jump to Double-A. The White Sox traded him to Oakland in the offseason. Two years later he was on the move again, this time to St. Louis. Ravelo became a consistent performer in Triple-A and after five years at the level finally got a shot in the majors in 2019 and 2020.
